July Update (2025) - Quick Update on status
8 months ago
– Tue, Jul 22, 2025 at 11:11:41 AM
Hey Folks-
A very brief update this time around, but it's been a while since I did an update and more folks are looking for information, so I figured I'd just share what I know.
US/CA Region physical products
The boat carrying everything arrived on the 11th, but unfortunately the goods have not yet cleared customs. As I understand it, this is currently taking longer than usual due to the complications around trade problems and what not, but that's out of my realm of expertise. The warehouse is pretty close to the final port, so it should probably take only about a day from once they clear customs to arrive at the warehouse, but the warehouse will probably process for at least a week before books go out.
This means that shipping in July is starting to get unlikely unless the books are released from the port tomorrow. Which they might be, but your guess is as good as mine. All told, this means the books were about a week late on the boat, and now at least another week late through customs, but this is just how things go with international shipping, particularly at the moment.
I've been holding off making this update until I could give you a better estimate, but I figured it was about time to give an update, and I'll make another update when I know more.
All of products (all other regions, all digital products)
Everything else should have been shipped, with the exception of a handful of material cards. Some of you will have gotten them, some of you won't, still resolving that (this is less than a dozen orders all told, but working on a solution for international orders here). For people that didn't get them, I'm happy to refund the difference between that and the rest of your order if you don't want to wait.
That's about it, I've been updating on the Discord with the tracking of the books, but news has been slow for a bit now since they are just sitting in the port facilities, so there's not much to watch on the tracking. I'll keep folks updated as I know more.
On backerkit, the status of the orders have updated since everything was processed over the warehouse and any new orders from here will be part of the 2nd of orders. I can still manually update the addresses for US/CA Backers by contacting the warehouse, but that now needs to be done by contacting me (it cannot be updated via Backerkit anymore).
All the best,

June Update (2025) - Quick update on shipping & summer suvey
9 months ago
– Wed, Jun 25, 2025 at 07:01:41 AM
Hi Folks-
Just wanted to send out a very quick update on status:
Physical Products
US/CA: Addresses are locking in 48 hours. You should get notification from Backerkit with instructions where to go if you need to check or update it, but you can also go check or change it here anytime in the next 48 hours. I think we'll get through tariffs with it being significant but not ruinous (as we are still within the 'pause' window where they are in the 30% range) as I've gotten the preliminary invoice for it, once I confirm that's finalized, I'll update folks in the next month's update. The books are arriving in port soon, and should be shipping out next month. They have passed through the canal and heading up the toward port now:
UK/EU/RoW: Books are shipping now. You should be getting shipping notifications and/or getting the first waves of books in your hand. Addresses have already been confirmed and locked down, as the books are on their way.
AU/NZ: Books have probably already arrived in most cases, as they started shipping a while ago. I've seen a lot of reports of folks getting the books, and am happy that things look good.
If you get a damaged book, do not panic. Just reach out to me with images of the book, and I'll get you a new copy. This will happen with a certain % of the books, and there's not much I can do about it. Books with obvious factory defects are screened at the warehouse, but they don't unwrap the book, so sometimes they'll miss them or they'll be destroyed in the final leg of shipping. I have books in reserve just to fix these sorts of issues.
Please note Material Cards will not arrive with your order in some cases, still resolving the issue there (again, this only affects a few dozen people, but want to call it out so folks aren't alarmed.
VTT Versions
I think all Foundry, Fantasy Grounds, and Roll20 have all had their modules complete, and Shard has started to get updates as promised and is rapidly nearing completion from what I hear.
2025 Summer Survey
One thing I wanted to share here is my 2025 Summer Survey. This takes less than 5 minutes to fill out, and is super helpful to me. I've already shared it on my reddit, discord, etc, but wanted to share it here as well, as that broadens the audience for it a bit. There's obviously no need or pressure to fill it out, it's just helpful as content creation is a data driven business, so it lets me know where my audience is at and what I can make that people will want.
Thank you all for your patience over this project getting done, we are in the home stretch now. I figure the next update will be when US books start shipping in mid-July, but I'll keep you posted if there's anything before that.

June Update (2025) - US/CA Addresses Locking soon, UK/EU/ROW Arriving in port soon, AU/NZ Shipping currently
10 months ago
– Tue, Jun 03, 2025 at 02:49:39 PM
Hey Folks-
Honestly, most of the update is in the title for those in a hurry, so... yeah. But for people that crave details, read on:
US/CA Books
US/CA Books are still on a boat. In fact, they are right here:
That isn't quite as close as it looks like, since they are going to the East Coast (Baltimore Harbor). They are scheduled to arrive in the warehouse June 30th, so should be shipping out in July.
I will be locking the US/CA addresses in order to hand the fulfillment details over to the warehouse to set up sometime this month (probably in a week or so). You'll get a 48 hour notification, but if you need to update your address for a US/CA order I recommend you do so ASAP.
The UK/EU Books should have arrived in port, but haven't cleared customs and made it to the warehouse in the UK yet. They should be shipping out this month, likely in the next couple weeks.
There are still complications as I'm working through the GSPR hurdles for the EU, and it is possible that might delay things as I get the books set up for that process. I don't currently expect it to, but I'm still jumping through the hoops there, so if there is unexpected snag, things might take longer.
AU/NZ Books
I think these books have shipped. I've been told people have been getting delivery/shipping notices from the fulfillment partner, so hopefully books are arriving on doorsteps either now or shortly.
Tariff Situation Updates
...No real updates there. Currently the tariff rate should be either 7.5%, 27.5% or 37.5% depending on the flip of a coin/appeals court, or if anything changes overnight. Either way, those are well within what I've said I'd cover, and the die is cast in that the books are shipped and heading toward harbor.
27.5% is what I currently expect, and is a cost I can absorb. I'll still put some way for people to cover their tariff once I actually pay for the people that want to pay their own tariff (or don't want individual publishers to have to eat the costs, perhaps more accurately, I don't think anyone wants to pay tariffs). But until I actually pay the tariff there is no point in speculating.
Currently the tariffs were paused, but they were restored, but are pending injunction based on the appeals court.
VTT Modules
Roll20 went live, FoundryVTT and Fantasy Grounds have been out for awhile, and Shard is in beta and getting updates now (and over the summer) to update things. Pretty much wrapped up here.
Crafting Material Cards
There is one issue discovered as the fulfillment started in the AU region that ripples across most regions, in that there was an item that was not part of the Kickstarter (Crafting Material Cards) but was available in the Backerkit. This item wasn't reprinted as part of the Kickstarter, it was just selling overstock from the last Kickstarter. Unfortunately, some regions sold more than they had available for various reasons (shifting warehouses, incorrect set up on my end).
I'm still working out how to solve this. For US orders, they should be unaffected as I think I can print on demand the small number of extra card decks I'll need in the US, and the quality will be comparable from what I see (the cost will not, but that only impacts me and for a small number of cards won't really matter). For UK/EU orders, the cards may be delayed and shipped separately (if they are, there will not be extra shipping charge). For AU/NZ, the cards will just be refunded since there is no practical way to get more cards to that region in a timely/costly manner (this only effects ~4 people)
To clarify, this affects <1% of all orders, as it was an add on only available via KS, and for US backers there should be no disruption (and, to clarify, I do have most of the cards in stock, that's why they were an add on in the first place, they just didn't limit properly in on the add on likely to do a setup error on my part, so its only a small % of the people that will get their cards late for that particularly deck).
Summary
I think that covers it. If you like tracking boats, I post an update of where the boat is every couple days on the Discord. Unfortunately I don't have that tool for the UK/EU boat, so its not that I didn't share its tracking, I just didn't have it on that boat (different companies).
As always, if you have any questions, feel free to send me a message or ask over on the Discord, where I can more or less always be found.
This project is long overdue for a variety of reasons, but we are getting pretty close now; many regions should have the book in hand by the end of this month.
All the best,

May Update (2025) Part 2 - Roll20 Module is released! Codes sent out through Backerkit!
– Mon, May 12, 2025 at 11:18:17 AM
Hey Folks-
Another off schedule update, but this time with good news.
KCLL Roll20 Module is Live!
The Roll20 module for KCLL has gone live. If you backed through Kickstarter or Backerkit, you should have received (or will shortly) a code for activation of the module. This has instructions on how to activate and get your content on Roll20.
There is no plan in the shipping date, but as you may have heard, a large portion of the US/China tariff has been paused for 90 days. While the new arrangements made it hopeful that the books would get through under partial exemptions, this is still good news, as it reduces the risk of going through customs, and the playing cards were previously not thought to be exempt.
If I’m understanding things correctly, this means that the books will come in at between a 27.5% tariff and a 37.5% tariff (depending on which end up applying). While that’s still not great (objectively, that’s still a pretty high tariff) that’s well within what I can pay without a major issue.
Obviously with the tariff rate changing overnight every month, it’d be foolish to completely bet that things will hold, but if everything goes as is currently scheduled, the books will come into the US inside this 90 day window.
Like previously mentioned, once the tariff is actually paid and finalized, I’ll put some optional way/minor digital incentive thing for folks that want to pay the tariff on their product, but it would be completely optional, just as a way to chip in for those that want it.
Summary
With this, all the VTT Modules should be out, all the books should be in freight shipping (some closer than others). US/CA address lock will probably be announced with the June update, but I’ll keep folks posted when we get there.
For those asking for KCCC (the first book) on Roll20, it’s under some debate. I’m considering options. If KCLL ends up selling well on Roll20 or some sort of small crowdfunder for the module makes sense, I might do that; or perhaps some incentive on a future crowdfunder. Really just depends on what the interest in KCCC on Roll20 is once we see how KCLL does there. Roll20 modules are expensive, so I cannot make random promises without a way to pay for it, but we are looking at options.
All the best,

May Update (2025) - Locking addresses for UK/EU/AU/NZ/ROW regions! Updates on US Shipping and Roll20 Module
11 months ago
– Thu, May 01, 2025 at 11:30:14 AM
Hey Folks-
So the last update wasn't that long ago, and had mostly less than stellar news, but fortunately this update has a bit more good news. So let's go down the list:
Addresses Locking (UK/EU/AU/NZ/ROW)!
This means basically everyone besides the US and Canada, you will get an email soon with a final notice that your address will be locked in 48 hours! This is needed so I can provide the fulfilment centers with the final list of folks. From that point forward, any address changes will need to be manually updated by me and the fulfillment center, so while it is still possible after they lock, please take this time to double check your address in backer if you've moved recently.
This doesn't mean shipping is quite yet though. The books are on route though. They should arrive in port in 'early June' in the UK; those books will ship out of GamesQuest warehouse to UK, EU, and RoW (Rest of World, any region not otherwise listed).
The books to AU/NZ I have less visibility on since they go through a partner company (Aetherworks). They should actually be the first to ship out, though I don't have the exact date for it. They are probably what is causing the fulfillment company to request locking addresses though, so if you're in that region please ensure that your address is updated as I won't be able to give a final last minute double check.
So what about the US/CA?
Obviously the tariff situation is still there, but I have started the process of shipping the books. I expect them to ship out in the next two weeks (the sooner the better, but with everything going on I don't want to promise it's this week; my understanding is that it is currently a holiday in China).
The summary of things here is that while my first shipping company ultimately concluded they could only ship RPG Books as games (subject to the full tariff) there are various opinions on that matter. I've spoken about this before, but essentially certain items are exempt from the 'blanket' tariffs.
I've had a company recommended to me by another publisher (one of the good folks at Kobold Press) who thinks that RPG Books are exempt from the 125% 'reciprocal' tariff. This would mean that they would be tariffed at 'only' 27.5%. While that's still not great, that's obviously well with the <100% range that I've said I would pay.
Now there's a reason the first shipping company didn't want to do it, and while they might just be wrong, there does seem to be some risk to customs will just reclassify the books as games and I'd have to pay the full tariff + fees, but for a few reasons I think it's worth the risk. As a layperson that goes over all the arguments and arcane legal rules here, best I can tell they really should be books and that's the correct classification.
Second, it does seem like other publishers are doing this, and they aren't getting reclassified. In fact, quite a lot of publishers seem to be sending books in at only 7.5%, but so far the only companies I've seen doing that are all in one services (that do printing and shipping, handling the importing on their own).
Even if everything works out, obviously this is going to cost me extra time and money, but ultimately it is within what I can absorb on the margins. If things do end up getting reclassified and subject to the full tariff rate, that's bad, but at the end of the day I don't think waiting it out makes sense when I think I have a good shot of making it through them. Hopefully the tariffs are no longer in place by the time the boat actually arrives, and none of this really matters. It would have been a huge waste of time and money, but certainly the best outcome from where we currently are.
So if I've found a new company and books were already ready to ship, why are books not on a boat? Same reason it took time last time. There are a lot of hoops to jump through and while I follow up on everything pretty quickly, I'm essentially just the gopher fetching information from one person and giving it to another person. They need different forms than the last company, quotes from different companies, etc, so everything needs to be redone. Combined with the potential holiday in China, I'm not sure how long it'll take to finalize, but it shouldn't be that long.
Either way, I'm not going to pass on the tariff charge, but once I actually get charged the tariff (be it 27.5%, 153%, or whatever else), I post what the actual tariff I got was, and let people that want to pay it pay it (some folks have asked for the option to; perhaps you love the tariffs and think paying them is great, perhaps you hate the tariffs but think small companies shouldn't be the ones getting shaken down, perhaps you just want to give me money, whatever the reason). I will make some optional way to do it once I can tell you exactly what the tariff per item was.
I don't know exactly how I'll do that, since I don't want to apply the tariff to everyone; perhaps it'll be a pay what you want digital item (like the catlock PDF or something), still figuring that out. Backerkit has a new tariff manager, but it's still in beta and not sure it'd do exactly this.
I should note that paying the tariff will not be voluntary if there is still a tariff on future Kickstarters (this will be included in their disclaimers, as you probably find in Kickstarters running now). I'm only paying it in this case because people have already paid and ultimately it's my responsibility to get them books even if there's been an unnatural disaster in the shipping market; it's like a boat sinking. But ultimately, tariffs are taxes on consumer goods, so that would get passed along in the future.
ShardVTT
If you have the ShardVTT you should have at long last gotten a beta key for the module. The module has a lot of content, but is unfinished. It will be finished this summer. Unfortunately the schedule slip on my end meant schedule slip compounded on their end, since they mostly do this sort of thing seasonally as I understand it. I think most things should be there already though, so hopefully that tides folks over and they can use it as is for the time being.
Roll20
Roll20 was supposed to finish last month, but as previously discussed there was an issue that needed the Roll20 Dev team to support involving using SRD spells. This apparently is an issue that all 3rd party classes that use spells have on that platform.
The resolution to this issue was worked out, and the module creator estimates that it should be ready within a week or two. Once they have the module finished, we'll need the keys from the Roll20 team, and it should be ready to go out. What that boils down in the timeline exactly, I don't know, but it should be soon™. Munky makes updates in the Roll20 channel on the discord as he goes.
Summary
So I think that's everything. I certainly understand why some folks are frustrated with the schedule; I'm working to get this project finished as soon as I can. I assure you, as impatient as the most impatient backer might be, I'm far more interested in getting this project wrapped up and resolved. This has been a massive headache on my end, at a point where I thought this project was almost ready to finally wrap up. But we are getting there (...once again).
Practically speaking I couldn't send the books into a 150%+ tariff with the chance those could double randomly again, but I think the arrangements in place are enough to take the chances (the good chance they should get through as classified being exempt from the 'reciprocal' tariff, the smaller chance the tariffs are just gone by the time they get there, combined make me think it is a reasonable route to go, especially with the other publishers largely seeing success doing it.
I will continue to keep you posted, but I don't think there will be another mid month update. Hopefully in the June Update we will see the Roll20 version already out, the books landing in the UK soon, probably already in the AU warehouse, and tootling along on a boat toward the US.
As always, for those that want a play by play or have any questions, feel free to join the Discord, where I update things as I hear them.
